ABOUT THE PROJECT
There are 132 peaks officially called "Bear Mountain" in the continental United States. Some may be too dangerous to climb or may be located on or accessible only through private property. As a tribute to Joe Feller, though, let's see how many we can climb safely and legally.
We've given each "Bear Mountain" a number for easy reference. Click here for a list organized by state and county. Click here for information about participating in the Bear Mountain Project, and some important warnings and disclaimers. Click here for a full-screen version of the interactive map. Or click here to learn about the Guy on a Buffalo.
To keep this reasonable, we've mapped and listed only summits registered as "Bear Mountain" with the U.S. Geological Survey--not "Bear Peak," "Grizzly Mountain," "Bare Mountain," or "Blue Bear Mountain." But if you climb one of those in Joe's memory, please do send in a trip report and a photo or two, so that we can post them on the blog.
